The War Junk is a military ship in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties that is unique to the Chinese and can be trained at the Dock once the Commerce Age is reached. It functions identically to the Caravel.
Overview[]
The War Junk has a moderate amount of hit points and is sometimes used to collect treasures. It is good at exploring, and has the ability to attack and fish. The War Junk's full potential can be discovered with the addition of Western Reforms and the Warship Combat cards.
Even when unupgraded, War Junks can still be surprisingly cost effective, thanks to their good rate of fire. Unlike Funes, a similar ship, War Junks can defeat Caravels in a one-on-one combat, and are very handy in harassing enemy Fishing Boats.
With European Cannons card, the War Junk get a +5 boost to range (including Broadside Attack) and LOS, which outranges most European Caravels except those with the Offshore Support card, making them an alarmingly dangerous and efficient early naval harasser and scout. In decent groups, they can threat even larger ships, such as Frigates.
Special ability[]
- Broadside Attack: Fires a volley of cannon shots at an enemy within attack range, with doing 35×3 siege damage with a ×2.0 multiplier against ships. 60 seconds cooldown.

Trivia[]
- Oddly enough, the War Junk shares its history section with the Fune.
History[]
“ | In 1281, when the Mongol Hordes of Kublai Khan invaded Japan, the Japanese had no navy with which to fight back. Most of the military action occurred on land, although groups of adventurous samurai utilized coastal fishing boats to assault, board, and then seize ships of the Mongol navy. | ” |
