Hello again everyone!
The Age of Empires Series Wiki is proud to present new polls and several major redesign quirks within the past month as our community continues to expand. Before I continue, I would like to thank everyone who participated in our recent AoE2 tech tree revamp, especially Blapp who initiated this project. Anyway, this post focuses on revamping our main page. For those of you who have been around here consistently for quite a while, I’m sure you have noticed by now that our Featured Article, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, and Did You Know...? sections are outdated and needs new content.
Therefore, I wanted to address the possibility of replacing the Featured Article and the Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger sections with more user friendly information that doesn't need consistent weekly or monthly updating. For example, we could replace these outdated sections with new portals designated for the expansions. Some time ago, I contacted and met up with all of our admins here. One of our main admins agreed with these updates and suggested that:
- AoM needs to be included with the main three titles on "Around the Wiki" section to improve visibility for it, perhaps placing a highlight logo+link after AoEIII to indicate its spin-off nature compared to the others.
- For each link in that section, I think it's probably best to have them link to a relevant portal like the way we did for AoM, e.g. AoEII linking to a portal (such as "Age of Empires II:Portal") with simple summaries, images and further links.
- Similarly, that would apply to a civilizations, units and community portal. I think it would allow for better access to the content, especially AoEII HD for Steam and its expansions, on offer.
However, our main page is restricted to changes made by the admins around here, so this is your chance to chime in and provide feedback or any additional ideas about this change. For those of you who are interested in participating I this project, I would strongly recommend creating your own sandbox like what I did here.
