Technology is the method of advancing your civilization in the Age of Empires Series. Technologies are usually grouped into a few categories:

• Unit upgrades - upgrading from Clubmen to Axemen (Age of Empires)
• Unit improvements - better armour or equipment for your units such as Chain Mail (Age of Empires II) or Counter Infantry Rifling (Age of Empires III)
• Economy upgrades - upgrades that help Villager or Fishing boats in carrying more or harvesting faster, eg Wheel (AoE I) or Gill Nets (AoE III)
• Building upgrades - more hitpoints, faster construction, more damage etc, eg Watch Tower upgrades and so on.
