Template:Ctabs Template:Infobox CivilizationThe Shang Dynasty is an ancient river valley civilization located in East Asia near the coast of China. They made up one of the earliest dynasties in Chinese history (1600 BC – 1046 BC) and are a playable civilization in Age of Empires. The Shang are strictly an economic civilization, but are also effective in defensive strategies and their cheap villagers make them a fast civilization. The civilization is historically based on the early Shang/Zhou dynasties in ancient China.
In Age of Empires II, Age of Empires III, and Age of Mythology, they are simply known as the Chinese instead of having their dynasties as their title in the game.

Understanding the Shang as Chinese, the Chinese are the only culture to appear in all four titles of the Age of Empires Series, including their respective expansion packs.
