Template:Infobox BuildingThe Saltpeter or Saltpetre site is a rare and unique building/site featured only in the Act III: India campaign in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties.

Overview

The site behaves in a manner similar to a Trading Post site. The site features 4 elephants enclosed in a pen. The elephants are abnormally large sized compared to their wild counterparts. Workers can be seen inside the pen handling the elephant manure with shovels.

In the Campaign

The Saltpeter site makes its only appearances in the Into the Punjab and Company Confrontation scenarios and cannot be found in normal skirmishes.

In Into the Punjab, It must be recaptured from the enemies Indians and have a Trading post built on it in order to win the scenario. An enemy upgraded Castle guards the site and must be destroyed in order to control it.

In Company Confrontation, the Saltpeter sites must be recaptured from the British and kept control of. Once again the Saltpeter sites will be heavily guarded by Company troops and a large army will need to be amassed to defeat them.

Trivia

  • Historically, Saltpeter was made from the excrement and urine of animals. Explaining the reason why the Elephants are in the pen.
  • Saltpeter is the common name for potassium nitrate;which was one the major constituents of gunpowder and had been used in the Middle Ages as a food preservative.
