Saladin is a campaign in Age of Empires II. Saladin (1138–1193) was the first Sultan of Egypt and Syria, being the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. The campaign depicts his leadership of the Muslim opposition against the Crusaders.

The campaign follows the story of a European knight who is stranded in the desert during the Third Crusade. He is eventually found by a pair of Saracen Cavalry Archers, who take him to their leader, the namesake of this campaign, Saladin.

Saladin is a cavalry hero in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. Being introduced later, he naturally never appears in his campaign and is only available in the Scenario Editor.

In-game, he is represented by a Mameluke. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.


Scenarios Edit

Outraged that the Holy Land is ruled by the Saracens, knights from Europe have descended upon the Middle East in a series of Crusades. Now four European kingdoms have sprung up in the desert. The Saracen king, Saladin, rallies his troops in an attempt to drive back the invaders. In response to European Crusades, the Saracens have organized a Jihad. In response to European vileness, the one-cultured Saracens have become treacherous. But will it be enough to save their homeland? - In-game campaign description

The Saladin campaign consists of 6 scenarios. The player plays as the Saracens, and the player color is green.
