The Khopesh Swordsman is an Egyptian infantry unit introduced in Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon. He has an attack bonus against land civilian units.
Bonuses & Improvements[]
Specific[]
- Medium Khopesh Swordsmen, Heavy Khopesh Swordsmen, and Champion Khopesh Swordsmen increase attack by 10% and Line of Sight by 1, and increase hit points by 10%, 15% and 20% respectively.
General[]
- Levy Barracks and Conscript Barracks decrease training time by 20%.
- Copper Weapons, Bronze Weapons and Iron Weapons increase attack by 10%.
- Copper Mail, Bronze Mail and Iron Mail decrease hack vulnerability by 10%.
- Copper Shields, Bronze Shields and Iron Shields decrease pierce vulnerability by 10%.
Strategy[]
Some may consider the Khopesh Swordsman as being the first "true" trash unit in Age of Mythology due to their low stats and niche role against Villagers. However, it is worth noting that in spite of their comparatively lackluster stats, they are blisteringly fast, being far and away the quickest infantry in the game and even able to outrun most cavalry units, in addition to being exceptionally cheap. If one does use them in combat, one might consider using them as a replacement for Classical Age cavalry, something Egypt otherwise lacks, to supplement Spearmen and Axemen, ideally avoiding the enemy's army entirely and just running past them to raid their villagers.
Changelog[]
Tale of the Dragon[]
- Originally, Khopesh Swordsmen had 65 hit points, 5 hack attack, and their bonus damage is limited to villagers. With patch 2.7, they have 75 hit points, 6 hack attack, and also deal bonus damage against trade units.
History[]
โ | With up to 24 inches in length, Khopesh is an ancient sword-like weapon with a curved end that comes from ancient Egypt. It is believed to have evolved from battle axes but despite its fierce appearance, the weapon's inside edge at the tip was blunted, thereby enabling the weapon to be used also as a hook or a club. Khopesh may also have served as a ceremonial weapon, in which case none of its edges would be sharpened. | โ |

Trivia[]
- Despite the name, the Khopesh Swordsman actually uses a Shortsword.
- The Khopesh's attack animation is not properly animated, such they attack with a punch, holding the sword to the side, rather than a proper thrust. This is most likely an error with the attachpoint of the weapon.
