The Kataskopos is a Cavalry Scout found in Age of Mythology only available for the Greek civilization. Kastakopi cannot be trained but are automatically available at the start of the game. It is poor in attack, having less attack than a villager and has negligible hit points.
Additional Kastakopi cannot be trained. Pegasi, which are much better scouts, can be trained later on from the Temple. Other Greek cavalry, such as the Hippikon and the Prodromos, are not recommended for scouting, due to their slow speed and poor line-of-sight.
History
The Greek Scout is fast and has a good line of sight, but is weak in actual combat. Although you cannot train additional Katascopi, better scouts, such as Pegasi, are available.
The name of this unit is found in the Bible and the interpretations of its meaning vary from explorer, spy, and scout. The Greeks used the word to refer to Romans exploring Greek lands, perhaps in preparation of the coming Roman conquest.
