Information

In Age of Empires III, The Humpback Whale offers fishing units a steady source of coin found at seas. Like all Whales, they have an unlimited amount of coin, but have a limit of four gatherers per unit. They are fifty feet long, about as long as a Caravel.

They are the most common Whale in the game, appearing in the majority of maps in Age of Empires III.

History

Scientific Name: Megaptera novaeangliae
Approx. Size: Up to 55 ft. long, 30 tons (male)
Diet: krill, small fish

Humpback whales are large, stocky baleen whales with long flippers, pronounced humped backs and knotty growths called tubercles. They are dark gray, with pale bellies. Humpbacks are very vocal whales, using a variety of squeals, grunts and rasps to communicate between themselves, especially when courting.

Humpbacks live in nearly every ocean, migrating over 3000 miles in a year to and from feeding and breeding grounds.

Trivia

  • Despite being named with the generic name of Whale, the Humpback Whale appears in the original Age of Empires as a food source, and as a decorative object in Age of Mythology.
