Havana port

The harbor of Havana, as it appears in Act I.

Havana is a city sited in the island of Cuba, in the Caribbean. It was founded as a Spanish colony in 1515 and achieved city status in 1592. Nowadays, it is the capital city of the modern day country of Cuba.

In Age of Empires III, it is the focus of two scenarios, the first being A Pirate's Help and the second being Last Stand of the Boneguard.

Campaign[]

A Pirate's Help[]

The first appearance of Havana occurs in the mission A Pirate's Help. After defending an Aztec city from the Spanish, Morgan Black attempts to catch up with the Spanish Treasure Fleet and Delgado, who has captured Sahin.

On their way towards Florida, the Knights of St. John are forced to land at Havana due to a hurricane. The player will need to earn Elisabet Ramsey's help by doing various favors for the pirate, this being the focus for the mission.

Havana itself is but a small colonial port; since the Act I: Blood campaign is set right after the Great Siege of Malta (during 1565), the town hasn't grown to the extent of a city, including just a small harbor, as well as some civilian structures. There was also not a garrison, or military units guarding the settlement.

It is constantly attacked by hostile natives (presumably Taíno, but represented in-game by Caribs), though not all native tribes are hostile towards the colonists, with a neutral tribe being the focus of a secondary objective.

Last Stand of the Boneguard[]

Havana is once again the site of a mission, but this time in Act III: Steel. After fighting the Circle of Ossus in multiple locations in South America, Amelia Black and Ká:nien confronted Pierre Beaumont and the Circle of Ossus, who held territory near Havana.

The Circle made a last stand to the Ossuary, sited in a heavily-defended stronghold just outside the city of Havana, guarded not only be multiple Boneguards, but also by three Fixed Guns. Eventually, Amelia shot Beaumont in a last stand battle and the siege destroyed the Circle for good.

Unlike in the first Act, Havana is a much more developped settlement, with proper pavement, but also a sizable garrison, including artillery. Since the mission is set before the Spanish-American war, the city still belonged to the Spanish. Interestingly, there is a native Carib settlement to an islet outsides the shores of Havana.

Havana can be made into an ally against the Circle of Ossus, by sending Amelia to Havana's Town Center. Once Havana joins the fight, the player will be provided with a Covered Wagon and a steady tribute of resources.
