Greeks
From Age of Empires
The Greeks are a civilization from way back in Age of Empires.
[edit] Game info
The Greeks can be a problem faction to play, in that they have a lack of any sort of archery unit beyond the basic 40f/20w Archer. Similarly, they also lack a lot of cavalry and chariot support, but more than make up for this in having all siege weapons, ships, and infantry. Early-game weakness is more-than-made-up-for with most technologies and Centurions,Heavy Catapults and Heliopolii available for their armies to slowly wade through the enemy ranks with.
Put simply, the Greeks are built for large-scale war.
- pros
- most battle technologies
- toughest units
- best ships
- cons
- no advanced archery support
- little cavalry support
- fairly average priests
[edit] Game Representation
The Greeks are represented in the first main campaign, which details their expansion from out of the last ice-age into the city-states and finally under the banner of Alexander the Great.
[edit] Age of Real World
The Greeks resided in their homeland, and in the ancient world were a major trade and colonial power, setting up colonies on Italy, Cyprus and Asia Minor (now modern-day Template:EnWP, which probably kicked off the Greece-Turkey animosity that lasts up to the current day. The Greeks fought mostly in large Template:EnWP armies that pegged javelins at each other and shuffled around the battlefield hiding behind their neighbour's shields. They eventually were conquered by the Romans a few centuries bc, and were largely assimilated into Roman culture
