Despite having high pierce armor, Azure Dragons are not as effective against buildings as they do not deal Crush Damage and their Special Attacks cannot be used against them. However, thanks to their equally high hack armor, high hit points and decent attack, they are very effective against human soldiers. Their special attack actually hits several units at once, thinning out enemy forces and making it easier for the player's army to finish them off. They also have high speed and can accompany cavalry units in late game raids. Their special attack, especially when upgraded, can deal enough damage to instantly kill worker-type units. As with every other myth unit, Azure Dragons should be kept away from Heroes and other stronger myth units, especially those with instant-kill attacks like the Mummy or Medusa.
On maps such as Midgard, River Styx, or Yellow River, Azure Dragons can also be used to regain or maintain control of the water as they are amphibious and can accompany ships or other naval myth units in naval warfare. Azure Dragons can also eliminate enemy naval/amphibious myth units, but should be kept away from Nereids and the Carcinos - the former can use her special attack to take off more than half of an Azure Dragon's hit points in one hit, and the latter spews highly damaging blood upon death, which can easily kill an Azure Dragon. Should players have food shortage, they can be trained in the place of their naval counterpart, the Dragon Turtle. Actually, players may choose Azure Dragons over Dragon Turtles to harass enemies regardless as they take up less population, have a higher damage multiplier versus myth units of x3, have slightly higher hack armor, and can retreat onto land to be healed by a Monk or other allied healer. Alternately, players can create an army of both Azure Dragons and Dragon Turtles to control the waters if they are daring enough and have the resources. On the other hand, Azure Dragons on the water should also be protected from hammer ships and the Argo.
Initially, Azure Dragons could use their special attack on Citizen Heroes. With patch 2.0, this was fixed.

The Azure Dragon is one of only two amphibious myth units, the other being the War Salamander.
Its stat distribution is identical to the Chimera and White Tiger, aside from the latter's Food price and lower Favor cost of 27. Additionally, each of them have their own special abilities and specific upgrades.
