Druzhina is the cornerstone of Slavic armies in the Imperial Age, benefiting both Halberdiers and Champions. As it allows both of these units to deal damage to adjacent enemies, it makes massed infantry units formidable for large battles, where armies tend to clump up, leaving them vulnerable to the splash damage. Researching Blacksmith technologies beforehand should not be disregarded, particularly given that Druzhina is the most expensive unique technology in the game (in terms of raw resources).

The Druzhina (Russian: дружина, lit. “Squad”) was a group of men in early Rus who helped the prince administer his principality. The individual member of druzhina was known as druzhinniki and the first members of druzhina were actually Norse warriors. They were eventually joined by members of the local Slavic aristocracy and adventurers from various nationalities. The senior members of the druzhina were known as boyars and acted as the prince's closest advisers. After the 13th century, the term druzhina fell out of use.
