    Hello there.

As stated I'd like content to be larger articles combining smaller content pieces. Like you dont need an article for crush armor if you can explain how fights work out in one big article, explaining attack- and armor-types, hp, attack multipliers and how line upgrades, armory upgrades and special upgrades work out changing such values.

As such I'd like to combine various articles into one, like Healer, Hit Points and Regeneration.

I recently made another big article which for sure is far from ideal, but on this matter I believe having a bold subsection-header or an indent on the normal text would help already, since it is hard to have multiple sub-section-headlines in a text being readable right now.

The article in question is Cou…

    Portable infoboxes

    April 29, 2017 by Narve

Many of the infoboxes on the wiki are not optimized for mobile viewing, so I've been thinking about remaking them using the new infobox markup. This page has more information, but basically, the reason for doing this is that the infoboxes will show up properly when viewed on a mobile phone.

They'll be used in the same manner, with the same input, but they won't look quite the same. I've applied it to the Wildlife infobox, giving us the before and after pictures.

The infoboxes will follow the wiki's default theme, meaning they'll look pretty much the same. You can use themes on indiviual infoboxes to change this, but I wasn't planning on spending time on that at this point.

What do people think? Should I go ahead and do this or not?

Hello again! Recently the topic of redundant pages arose and I create this blog so we can discuss the right to exist for the tagged pages.

    Pages currently tagged:

    • Attack Bonus
    • Age of Empires: The Age of Kings DS units
    • Maps (Age of Empires II)

Please voice your opinion on the matter here so we can delete pages that are agreed upon being redundant.

Does anyone know an easy way I can make my own unit icon? I wanted to create a blog post on one of my fictional unique units, the Cable-backed Bowman. But before I did, I wanted to know if there was any way I could easily make my own unit icon. Thanks.

    Shamanism

    April 14, 2017 by UnofficialGameExpert78

Shamanism is the Castle Age unique technology for the Anasazi. Once researched, Monasteries will regenerate health over time.

While it would have limited usage outside of a Monk Rush, it could be useful if a raiding party attacked a Monastery and left abruptly. The Monastery would heal without any need for a Villager to repair it. In the post-Imperial Age, it would useful to have alongside their Imperial Age unique technology, Pueblos. Military buildings would fire arrows at the enemy, while the Monasteries would heal if the enemy retreated.

Recently I was suprised to find out that I was promoted, though I won't say that extra permissions harm. However I did not fully understand what my 'role' is. I don't want to go on to much about it, but I am currently also Discussion moderator.

Now the question arrives what should a Discussion moderator do? If I was never supposed to edit comments of other people, I wonder why I was given that permission. I don't like to edit peoples comments, since I normally think that everybody has a right to voice his opinion. I guess everybody agrees to that in some lesser or more extent. I would like to discuss when to edit a comment. I will give a few examples and I hope we can discuss it.

    Expansion Categorisation

    April 5, 2017 by Kran96

Hello everyone, as many may know, many Age of Mythology pages have been categorised, based on the expansion they appear (e.g Atlanteans is categorised in The Titans, whereas Deep Jungle is added to the Tale of the Dragon category). This serves a practical purpose, as a person who is interested in an expansion may find any related information about it, especially important if he/she is interested in purchasing it.

MasterBroccoli suggested this should also be done for Age of Empires II expansions. I definetely agree with that, as AoE II is the most expansion-heavy game in the series, with many features being scattered between expansions (for example, amphibious maps in Rise of the Rajas, African Kingdoms introduced early game naval units, etc..).…

I went to the Age of Empires II Portal to try to create an article about Fire Towers. Thing is, when I typed in the title and it loaded the unfinished article, it listed the title as Age of Mythology:Fire Tower. I don't know what's going on, because I typed it into the Age of Empires II Portal. Is this a glitch? Will it be fixed? Or am I doing something wrong? Please help!

    Huo Pao

    March 26, 2017 by Dark Paladin X

Huo Pao is a unique tech available to the Jurchens in the Imperial Age. It boosts Bombard Cannons and Trebuchets power by granting them +2 range, +150 damage vs. buildings, and +50 damage vs. siege weapons and ships.

Huo Pao greatly boost the strength of the Jurchen's Bombard Cannons and Trebuchets by granting them extra range and more damage vs. buildings, siege weapons, and ships.  Given the fact that the Jurchens do not access to Siege Engineers, it's a must research tech to boost the Jurchen's long range sieging power (combined with the Jurchen's team bonus and their Bombard Cannons having reduced minimum range), thus giving the Jurchens the best Trebuchets and Bombard Cannons in the game that rivals the Portuguese and Ethiopian siege …

    Guaizi Ma

    March 26, 2017 by Dark Paladin X

Guaizi Ma is a unique Castle Age tech available to the Jurchens that can be researched in the Castle.  It allows Stable units and Iron Pagodas to deal 5 trample damage to adjacent enemies.

Guaizi Ma is the main tech for the Jurchen cavalry.  It allows all Stable units (Paladins, Hussars, and Heavy Camels) and Iron Pagodas to deal trample damage to adjacent units, making Jurchen cavalry very formidable in large battles when armies clump up together.  Keep in mind that Blacksmith techs should be researched beforehand, considering that Guaizi Ma happens to be more expensive than the Jurchen's Imperial Age tech, Huo Pao.

The Imperial Hand Cannoneer is a second unique unit for the Jurchens.  It can be trained at the Archery Range in the Imperial Age.  As an upgrade to the Hand Cannoner, it's an anti-infantry gunpowder unit.

The Imperial Hand Cannoneer is basically a stronger version of the Hand Cannoner in terms of HP, damage, and accuracy.  But the biggest strength of the Imperial Hand Cannoneer is their higher attack bonus versus infantry and their ability to deal melee damage (combined with the Hand Cannoneer's bonus damage versus Rams, enemy Rams will end up quickly destroyed).  This makes the Jurchens having the most formidable anti-infantry capacity that help make up for the lack of Thumb Ring and the Champion upgrade.  That being said, the Jurchens s…

    Hello again!

As this wiki continues to expand, I started to realize the limitations of just using my blog as a place to promote certain people. For example, I can imagine there will be a time in the near future where I will have to leave this wiki indefinitely, and I can see how future admins and head admins around here will be irritated about having to keep editing a blog of a user that is no longer active.

If you look at this page from the time this blog is published, you will notice 4 different sites where to promote people: a head admin’s talk page, my blog, the forum, Administrators/Requests and the site where larger wikis use to promote people, but doesn’t exist here. I find this situation compelling, and must resolve this immediately …

    Hey everybody,

    Template:AoEII Icons

i know this template comes pretty late, as its purpose has mostly already been filled manually, but when creating the various Armor Class pages, i mused that it's pretty tedious to look up the icon name for every unit in AoE2. While some icons are similarly named, they aren't wholly consistent, and i didn't know by heart, whether there was a disambiguation page dor the unit (i.e. if there's a unit of the same name in other games). Experimenting with Template:ForNolink sparked my interest in playing around with templates, so i decided to make a template fur the icon purpose. It's still work in progress, so i haven't released it as a template yet, but here's the draft: Update: to showcase it better i created…

    AoM content

    February 10, 2017 by Kran96

Hello, as you may have already seen, these days the AoE wiki has been really revamped, an excellent example being the new Age of Empires II Civilization Tech Trees, who are far more advanced and pleasant to the eye than the previous, bland ones. Stubs are cleared almost every day, and new pages start to appear lately.

However, there is still a particular section of the wikia that appears to be somewhat neglected in comparison to other games'; the Age of Mythology section. Whereas the Age of Empires II is well developped (excluding Random Maps and some content of Rise of the Rajas, which is justified, as it has been available recently), the AoM section misses much information, that includes scenarios, random maps and exclusive contents from the new…

I recently noticed that there were some howdah links on AoE2 pages to the ambitious page. So I changed that, Then I realized that the same problem would be there for the AoE3 page. So I also fixed some of those pages. If there are some AoE3 articles with links to howdah, they might contain the wrong link.

Many Age of Empires 3 articles about units contained the link to the unit page, which should link to the Units page instead.

This raised a questions to me, Is there a way to find pages with links to the Howdah or unit, so we can fix the links?

When I was looking for AoE3 pages with the Howdah link, I noticed that not all unit articles for AoE3 specify at which building an unit is produced(example Howdah page). Should this be added like in th…

Anyway, this post focuses on revamping our main page. For those of you who have been around here consistently for quite a while, I’m sure you have noticed by now that our Featured Article, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, and Did You Know...? sections are outdated and needs new content.

Therefore, I wanted to address the possibility of replacing the Featured Article and the Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger sections with …

Alternatively, we could use imagemap and use the full-size ingame tree. It may be better, because the individual images cannot be positioned properly and make it difficult to maintain clarity. It requires some work, though. Also, properly structuring will help there, like starting with economy (TC, Mill, Market, LC, MC), then military (Barracks, AR, Stable, Siege Workshop, Castle), then research and defensive structures (University, Monastery, Blacksmith), and then Dock. If we decide to take the last version, I need time.^^ To have a lot of people working on that doesn't make much sense I say, it requires some time, dedication, and propensity to perfection t…

    AoE II Tech Tree revamp

    February 1, 2017 by Blappp

Hey i find the tech tree tab for the civilisations rather lackluster and confusing, so i suggest some changes:

First of all, because not all players know the full tech tree by heart, they can't see at first glance which technologies are missing for the respective civilisation, so i plan on filling in the full tech tree to all civilisations

Once the entire form is done, it would be easy to copy it to all civilisations and just the unavailable ones would have to be manually stroke through, plus unique units would have to be added

Also imma add the little icons, some people (including me) remember pictures better than names (this has been done for most pages already, but the tech trees have been neglected)

a matter for debate is whether to includ…

    January 29, 2017 by MasterBroccoli

    Hello again!

My current focus here are categories. I intent to improve and simplify the entire categorization in this wiki as there are redundancies and inaccuracies. I noticed others are working on categorization as well and to avoid double edits and undoings I create this blog. If you have any ideas or disagree with what I do in this regard, please share it here. I'm always happy to read other opinions.

Recently, a melee cavalry and ranged cavalry page have been created, which I deleted, since I don't see the use to blow up the cavalry category considering ranged cavalry (note that cavalry archers already have (and keep) their own category) is only a small group of units. That's my opinion. Same with infantry, I don't see the use to split …

Hey guys, i've created the Camelry Units class page for AoE II HD, since they are their own armor class now instead of being ships.

My thought process behind creating the class and changing all the infoboxes: Armor classes are one of the least explained features of the game, the only information we are given in-game is that certain units have an attack bonus versus others, but neither is it explained how much exactly (not even flat addition or multiplier). This is already very well documented in the wiki, thanks to everybody for testing this out.  But also the armor classes themselves aren't really explained, one can guess the basic ones like cavalry or infantry, but there are others, for example "cavalry archers" or "camels" which one migh…

    Om Mani Padme Hum

    January 15, 2017 by Dark Paladin X

Om Mani Padme Hum is a Tibetan unique tech that can be researched in the Castle in the Imperial Age. Once researched, it changes the Monk cost from 100 gold to 100 food instead, making Tibetan monks trash units.

Om Mani Padme Hum allows the Tibetans to fully transition into Monks late game.  With Monks costing food instead of gold, combined with the Tibetan civilization bonus of Monastery techs costing food instead of gold and faster Moanstery work rate, this makes spamming Monks incredibly viable for the Tibetans lategame when gold runs low.  Nevertheless, Monks in the Imperial Age are considered to be utility units (especially in team games where gold isn't an issue thanks to a stable trade line), as massing up Monks and converting units …

Amitabha strengthens the Tibetan Monk rush during the Castle Age, as it grants Monks an additional range and regenerate their faith 20% faster after a successful conversion.  This means that a Monk can convert a unit in a further distance, giving Tibetan Monks a total of 13 conversion range when Block Printing is researched in Imperial Age.  The Monk's healing range is also increased by 1 as well, giving Monks a safer distance for healing units.  The faster faith regeneration combined with Illumination means Tibetan Monks can pref…

    Pueblos

    January 10, 2017 by UnofficialGameExpert78

Pueblos is the Imperial Age unique technology for the Anasazi. When researched, it causes all military buildings to fire arrows.

Barracks fire one arrow, Archery Ranges five, and Siege Workshops three.

Pueblos would be particularly useful, since the Anasazi are an archer civilization, and Archery Ranges would most likely be built as close to the enemy lines as possible. However, Barracks would be built near enemy lines too, since the Anasazi possess decent Eagle Warriors as well. Causing both of these buildings to fire arrows would give added protection to the unit production, especially since military buildings are usually built in clusters.

    Anasazi

    January 9, 2017 by UnofficialGameExpert78

The Anasazi are a North American archer and economy civilization featured in  Age of Empires II HD: The American Tribes. They represent the Anasazi, also known as Ancestral Puebloans, who built cliff dwellings that still exist today.

The Anasazi unique unit is the Cable-backed Bowman, a cheap, weak archer useful for spamming, similar to Shotel Warriors and Karambit Warriors. Many American Indian tribes had shamans, or medicine men, which is what the Anasazi Castle Age unique technology refers to. Their Imperial Age unique technology, Pueblos, refers to the cliff dwellings that they often built. Many dwellings are a marvel to archeologists, who are still trying to figure out their purpose, so the Anasazi Houses return 50% of their wood when d…

So with The Rise of the Rajas expansion released, some of my civilization ideas (such as Khmers and Indonesians, which the later civilization in the expansion is represented as Malays) are implemented into the game.  Some of my civilization predictions are mostly correct (Khmers having Balista Elephants, strong Scorpion bonuses, units incredibly vulnerable to conversion, strong siege, and being a jack-of-all-trades civilization; and Malays being a naval/infantry civilization with having the worst cavalry in the game) while other areas are not (I'm a bit surprised that the devs didn't get the Khmers Arbalests since Khmer armies historically used crossbows a lot in warfare along with balistas).  I'm actually more surprised that the Vietname…

hey, i don't know where else to ask this question so i decided to try a blog post.

i try playing all the scenarios on "hard" difficulty for a challenge and to write useful strategy guides. i kinda have the suspicion that the difficulty changes sometimes when loading saved games. the AI seems to behave way less aggressive. is it just me or has this occurred to somebody else?

    thanks in advance

I noticed that the categorization in general needs improvement. But just yesterday I browsed around a little and found there are some specific things that make no sense, either.

For example the civilization categories. Take the Turks for example, they get a category, and the Ottomans get a separate one, although technically being the same (or at least very similar) civilization. Now take the Germans or Russians. They are thrown into the same category as the Teutons and Slavs, respectively, even though that category pages explicitly say to only contain pages from the AoE III civilization (for the Germans, I changed the Russian page). That makes no sense. I personally would prefer to have different pages if the civilizations don't have the sa…

    Unique technologies

December 9, 2016 by Lord Vipertooth

I noted that for the AoC civs on their respective civ page we first note the ´old´ imperial unique tech and then the ´ńew´ forgotten unique castle tech, and for newer civ it is the other way around for example:

Unique Technologies: Supremacy (increased attack, armor and HP for Villagers), Inquisition (Monks conversion rate improved)

    and

Unique Technologies: Pavise (Foot archers +1 melee armor/+1 pierce armor), Silk Road (Trade units 50% cheaper)

For newer visitors, it might be an trial and error experience to find the castle unique tech. I would suggest bringing somewhat more structure in the way unique techs are listed like:

Castle age unique Technology: Inquisition (Monks conversion rate improved)

Imperial age unique Technology: Supremacy (increased atta…

    patch 4.8 beta

November 5, 2016 by Lord Vipertooth

Patch 4.8 beta is up and it posses quite some ballance changes. It can be found at http://steamcommunity.com/app/221380/discussions/0/282992646965925735/. I think it gives us some work to keep the wiki up to date, as it has a few ´strategy changing´ features. I would like to know what you think about this.

Most noticebly, they have done something to arrowslits, which they should have done from the start, they halved its effect.

Another thing is the Throwing Axeman thing, they have been buffing it since the forgotten, giving it squires in the forgotten, extra speed in AK and +10HP in the newest patch, and they also did something with frame delay somewhere earlier. I think it is one of the most buffed units since the Conquors.

    The tarkan Line g…

    Eagle warriors

October 29, 2016 by Lord Vipertooth

The eagle warrior did have a makeover in the forgotten expansion. I think it will be hard to describe them effectively in one page. The units are quite different in therms of HP, attack(bonusses?), pierce armor, speed, one being an upgrade of the eagle scout and the other is a starting unit. I would suggest having a seperate page for both units. I would like to know how you feel about this.

The Jurchens were the ancestors of the modern Manchus, they are known for their rule over China with the Jin Dynasty and later the Qing Dynasty as the Manchus.

The Jurchens were known to be fierce horsemen that were known to wear heavy armor in combat and known for their strong cavalry tactics where they chained the legs of the horses together to deal more collateral damage in combat (known as Guaizi Ma). This is highlighted with their Castle Age unique tech in the namesake that allows cavalry units to deal trample damage, and their civilization bonus where Knights get more armor in Castle Age, and even more armor in Imperial Age, making their Knights more resistant to melee attacks.  Their unique unit, the Iron Pagoda, further highlights t…

So, I've been posting a few civilization ideas in my own personal blog in this very wiki.  For those who aren't familiar who I am, I'm Dark Paladin X from Age of Kings Heaven.  Recently, I've been posting some of my civilization ideas in a spreadsheet.  So far I've gotten some positive and negative feedback on several of my civilization ideas.

Apparently, I will not be updating the said spreadsheet since I find it too tedious to constantly update.  Not to mention, Posting my civilization ideas in wiki blog format would allow me to go in-dept detail on some of my civilization ideas and why I design them that way.  Note that I will not exactly follow everything from my spreadsheet in my blog posts since I'll be readjusting some of the civ bon…
