Microsoft have announced the release of an Age of Empires II HD Edition. Re-imagined by Hidden Path Entertainment, this release is limited to Steam users. It becomes available for all non-pre-purchasers on 9 April, 2013 and costs $19.99 USD.

The (partial) remake features graphical enhancements, widescreen support, Steam Workshop integration, Achievements, more multiplayer options and netcode improvements.

Recently there has been a bunch of activity regarding Age of Empires II: The Forgotten Empires and the creation of seperate pages for the new civilizations. However well made it is the expansion is still fan-made so they do not warrant their own pages. None of the civilizations introduced in other mods have their own pages and I do not see why Forgotten Empires is so special that they warrant this extra attention. I am open to discussion on the issue so feel free to express any thoughts on it.

I've been looking through the categories list lately, and I found something of an issue: reduntant categories.

For example, theres a Category:Naval Units, a Category:Navy, and a Category:Ships.

(There are also unique ship categories for every game, and a warship category, but those are not necessarily redundant).

Since the "Navy" category contains more pages and subcategories, I'm thinking of changing the ones in the other categories to that one, but I was interested in hearing what other people think.

Since the last year, it was announced that some good developers were working on a new expansion, which is going to see the light this December.

The most important thing is that it adds (yes, it adds, not replaces) 5 new civilizations: Incas, Indians, Italians, Magyars and Slavs, which I think that justice has been made for all of them.

Another good thing is that now all civs get a second Unique Technology, just like Goths did. Also, new units, wonders and techs are added.

In addition, many unbalances from AoC are corrected and the numerous bugs (like the relic bug or the monk speed bug) are fixed, and the AI is improved.

Other features are the 1920*1440 resolution and the +50 population limit.

I decided to try AoEO again since it has been patched quite a bit. You still have to pay for the premium civilization upgrade if you want to equip the best gear, use advisors, etc. The free game though is still pretty entertaining and you can get quite far without having to pay a cent.

The learning curve for someone coming into the game from AoE3 is very small, I am level 10 now as the Egyptians and I am having little difficulty with the quests using only a few pieces of equipment (Egyptians have the strongest economy and thus make an excellent rush/spam civ). All in all the improvements are solid.

If anybody else is playing let me know and I will add you as a friend, for anyone just starting out I have a bit of a primer below.

For a little while I thought his list had went offline, but I found a post browsing the archives at the official AoE3 forums that mentioned it coming back online. So for those of you who may have thought the list gone for good, here you go.

When using the list as a reference for making edits, only use the Robot Entertainment 1.02 unit list and the card list and building list under Ensemble Studios 1.00 (buildings may have different stats due to patches, but putting the original stats is better than having an empty infobox). Do not use fan patch information on the wiki pages or link directly to fan patches in official articles, mention the links on the talk pages if you feel you must point out the mods.

Well, something glitchy is happening to me everytime I play with the Indians. It isn't bad actually, I think it's good instead.

The first time something strange happened was when I received 3 Settler wagons out of nowhere; the second time I just received the shipment of the mangoes and all my elephants upgraded to honored level.

The third time there was only 1 card recently available, I just clicked on this card and instantly another one was ready too. The fourth time a message saying that I received a shipment which is gonna make me a discount of every upgrade appeared (as if I were playing with Japanese and sent the Industrial Age card of the discount).

After doing a good amount of scrounging around the wiki, I've noticed something come up mulitple times that I'm various curious about: should unique units have separate "Elite" pages? For example, the Teutonic Knight has its own page, alongside the Elite Teutonic Knight page (which, I must point out is extremely bare to the bone and empty). On the other hand, the Tarkan has no "Elite" version page, and instead consists only of the one page, which provides (a little) information on both units in general. So my question is, should "Elite" units have their own pages, or should they be merged into a single page that comprises both the base unit and its upgraded, elite counterpart? The Russians are my favorite civilization. They can train groups of infantry, like 10 Strelets, or 5 musketeers, or 3 settlers at a time. Its faster and it costs less resources in the long run. The key to the Russians is overwhelming your opponent with numbers, so I'd recommend a huge group of Strelets and a backup group of Cosacks. Cosacks are actually very powerful when upgraded, overpowering Hussars and Uhlans. Thats is they're upgraded of course. The blockhouses are also very useful, saving wood by only having to pay for a Barracks, but getting a Blockhouse that is a Barracks and an Outpost combined. This past week has seen some major changes for the Age of Empires Series Wiki. First of all, we got a new skin and main page, and now it looks like the Age of Mythology Wiki will be merging into this one.

Once the merge is complete, the Age of Mythology content will count for one third of our articles, with over 500 articles of AoM content. These pages will be focused on by a new group of administrators, the Age of Mythology Administrators.
