Administrators or admins are trusted users who have access to a wide variety of tools and features, generally for site maintenance and dealing with vandals. Administrators are split into two different categories, Bureaucrats and Sysops. While both have access to basic administrator tools, Bureaucrats have an additional ability to promote different users. While there is no concrete limit to the amount of Sysops or Bureaucrats a wiki can have, each wiki has the ability to decide what the maximum amount will be.
Users with these rights have access to features of the wiki which are not available to others. A guide for requesting these rights can be found at this section. The following is a list of additional abilities administrators have in their disposal.
- All privileges from the Discussions Moderator and Content Moderator groups.
- No rate limits on account creation, moving pages and moving or uploading files.
- The ability to protect a page so that only certain users can edit it, and permission to edit any protected page during extreme vandalism.
- Block or unblock any user or IP address from editing the wiki. They can also change a block if needed.
- The ability to grant and revoke both the Chat Moderator and Discussion Moderator rights.
- Permission to edit the site interface, such as the sidebar and sitenotice, or the site skin.
- Edit the Wiki's filters.
- Having this status causes "ADMIN" to appear next to the username on the user's userpage, unless changed on MediaWiki:User-identity-box-group-threadmoderator.

Bureaucrats are vital in ensuring community vitality since they fit the role of a human resource administrator within the wiki, which is crucial for an expanding community. Being at the top of the hierarchy, Bureaucrats have an additional ability to promote users up to their own ranking after passing a community vote. Although they can remove themselves from their own ranking, they cannot demote other Bureaucrats and can only demote users up to the Sysop ranking. In many wikis, it is common to have more sysops than bureaucrats despite the important role they play. Although there is nothing wrong in having as many Sysops a wiki can have, having too many Bureaucrats would likely result in inefficiency of decision making and overburden of needless policies due to the need for Bureaucrats to establish consensus among each other consistently for every decision.

Who are this wiki's administrators?
The founder of any wiki, the person who first requested it, is given administrator access automatically for that wiki. Founders are also given bureaucrat access so they can promote other users to encourage further expansion.

Becoming an administrator
For you to become an administrator, someone with bureaucrat access must make you one. Wikis with a larger community often require community approval before completing the request. A guide for requesting these rights on this wiki can be found at Requests for Permissions. Although the process may differ depending on the wiki, it should be noted that such requests are often taken seriously across many wikis with more established communities, and as such, users who seek additional rights for themselves should consider whether their decision will merit the approval of the administration as well as other users. This is attributed to the hefty responsibilities required when someone receives adminship.
If there are no active bureaucrats or administrators for over a year and you wish to become an administrator and adopt the wiki, please contact the community staff. If there are other active editors but no active bureaucrats/admins, you should first discuss with them on who should become an admin, whether it be one of you, or all of you.
What can't administrators do?
Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle disputes for their own purpose or interest; for example, locking a page on a version the administrator prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. The primary role of an administrator is to maintain and monitor the wiki, making sure it is easy and safe to use. As such, administrator powers should only be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith.
Ideally, an admin shouldn't assume ownership of the site and should remain neutral even during a heated dispute, focusing solely on addressing the underlying problem at hand. The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra tools and to use them for the benefit of the wiki community. The best admins are often those who have high attention to detail and focus on problem solving for the sole purpose of building a community dedicated to open sourced encyclopedias.
